The Statapult Catapult is used by hundreds of companies and universities for Lean Six Sigma training. It’s great for team exercises, for applying statistical methods to real problems, for teaching designed experiments, control charts, basic statistics, statistical process control, and cause and effect diagrams – plus it makes training practical and fun! The Statapult Catapult is supplied with a pamphlet of suggestions for classroom use, together with all required working parts for single-cup operation.
The statapult can be adjusted to fire balls different distances at a range of trajectories, and this ball acts as spare ‘ammunition’. It fits perfectly into the cup at the end of the throwing arm, and is available in a range of easily distinguishable and bright colours.
The world-famous consultant Dr. W. Edwards Deming (who taught the Japanese, Americans and many other countries about Quality), created the ‘Red Bead Game’. The game consists of a paddle, and a bowl of red and white beads. The white beads symbolise good products and the red beads are considered defects and errors. As each player draws their paddle full of 50 beads, they receive a different mix of red and white beads. There are many teaching examples from the game. We, as workers, rarely have control over our experiences; repeatable high-quality results are achieved by putting technology into the process. Equally, where the root cause of the problem is in the process, procedures such as encouraging, disciplining, and setting workforce targets are fools’ errands. The experiment is particularly useful for teaching statistical process control, and it is supplied with a complete set of instructor notes.
The angle of the statapult’s throwing arm determines the trajectory and distance that the ball is fired – and the angle can be changed by fixing the firing mechanism to one of four hole positions on the statapult’s upright adjustor arm. These pins act as spare attachments that pass through the holes on the adjustor arm.
